The COVID-19 pandemic is a global threat. Without powerful antiviral medicines, repurposing is the mainstay of treatment. FDA-approved antiparasitic ivermectin (IVM) exhibits antiviral action against a wide range of viruses. Ivermectin's antibacterial, antiviral, and anticancer characteristics make it a wonder medicine. Several research have revealed antiviral effects of IVM on RNA viruses such as Zika, dengue, yellow fever, West Nile, Hendra, Newcastle, Venezuelan equine encephalitis, chikungunya, Semliki Forest, Sindbis, Avian influenza A, porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome, HIV-1, and SARS-CoV2 (SARS-CoV-2). Recent research reveal IVM suppresses (SARS-CoV-2) in vitro, suggesting its application against COVID-19.
