Patients with acute asthma attacks frequently present to the emergency room with significant functional impairment, despite their lack of awareness of their symptoms. Early functional evaluation is crucial in this case, with an emphasis on respiratory function, vital signs, and subjective dyspnea. Guidelines suggest that intensive treatment should only be used in cases of non-response and/or worsening of the clinical circumstances.
