After a woman is postmenopausal, further vaginal bleeding is no longer considered normal. The most prevalent benign and malignant disorders in the differential diagnosis of postmenopausal bleeding are atrophy and other benign conditions, although endometrial cancer is the most worrisome cause. Early detection can improve prognosis, as it does with the majority of cancers. A postmenopausal woman who experiences vaginal bleeding should therefore be evaluated as soon as possible.
