Preventing mother-to-child transmission (PMTCT) of HIV is a critical strategy in the fight against HIV/AIDS. PMTCT refers to measures that can be taken to reduce the risk of HIV transmission from an HIV-positive mother to her child during pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding.When implemented correctly, PMTCT interventions can reduce the risk of mother-to-child transmission of HIV to less than 5%.
