When patients have been experiencing symptoms for longer than a week, especially in the second week of sickness, serological assays can be useful in confirming a diagnosis of COVID-19. Serological diagnostic tests are most helpful in seroprevalence investigations and have limited utility in the first week of sickness. The diagnostic accuracy of the ELISA and CLIA platforms are comparable.
