Many healthcare facilities in underdeveloped nations lack the tools and staff members who are qualified to diagnose the aetiology of STIs (using laboratory tests to identify the causative agent). A syndrome-based approach to the therapy of STI patients should be promoted where neither laboratory nor point-of-care diagnostic testing is available. The use of flowcharts (algorithms) for each STI syndrome is necessary for the syndromic management method to be accessible, inexpensive, and effective for managing people with STIs.
